THE GREAT CARRIE BRADSHAW DEBATE

Gawker posted an amusing, skewed article from about.com circling around the influence that "Sex and the City" heroine Carrie Bradshaw has on fashion; it dovetailed quite nicely with an exchange I had with a friend about that oh-so-loveable, charmingly neurotic clotheshorse. I let slip that I really hated the way Carrie Bradshaw dressed, and my friend was totally horrified. "You can't hate Carrie Bradshaw's style! That's blasphemy!" she gasped. I suppose it is, what with Sarah Jessica Parker gracing the current cover of Vogue this month and everyone sporting bobby pins in their hair and whatever the hell else that madcap stylist Patricia Field can come up with. Carrie's got great clothes, I do admit, but it's just stuff piled on top of stuff piled on top of more stuff and then topped with more stuff. It's too much! It must be stopped! It gives me a headache! I'm sorry! Of course, I'm a closet minimalist so what do I know? Still, if you're deadset on that whimsically cluttered style, you can go here for your hit of Carrie Bradshaw inspiration. (Be warned, lots of popups, although relentless popups do seem fitting for a site devoted to a "Sex and the City" character...)
