Paris Hilton To Design Accessories, Become Cultural Icon of Lasting Importance

I read today in WWD that Paris Hilton has recently cut a deal to put out a line of handbags, making her Hilton #2 to design accessories. (Sister Nicky designs bags for Japanese company Samantha Thavasa.) There aren't a lot of specific details, other than the line will be manufactured by the same company that does Paris's fragrance, Parlux. But you have to love any article on Paris that has the following quote:

"She's a very important person in American culture, if not the most important," Ilia Lekach, Parlux chairman and chief executive officer, said on Friday without a hint of facetiousness.

This, my friends, is why WWD is required reading, right up there with The Economist and Fader.
