Snapshot: Listening, Watching, Reading, Etc.

(We're late! What can we say...we all had pretty great weekends.)

+ Kat

Listening: Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Zuma (I think it's almost a requirement to have some affection for Neil Young at this blog); a bunch of MSTRKRFT remixes; Interpol, Our Love To Admire; Hala Strana
Watching: Let's Get Lost, the luminous documentary on Chet Baker; Annie Hall in Bryant Park
Reading: Bel Canto by Ann Patchett; Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald; the New Yorker
Wearing: A brown suede halter from Donna Karan scored from Beacon's Closet, American Apparel black skirt, some old black cardigan, gold bracelets from Thrift Town in San Francisco, sand-colored suede Frye boots
Coveting: A rollercoaster ride and some french fries

+ Liz

Listening: The White Stripes, Icky Thump; the 1:47 of Courtney Love's "PCH" available at moonwashedrose.com (check the left sidebar - somehow this is already the second-most-played song in my iTunes); Sonic Youth, "Eric's Trip" (acoustic demo version, via Fluxblog); Modest Mouse, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
Watching:
Knocked Up; more "Stella" (seriously, I love Michael Showalter way too much)
Reading: the Bono-edited/Africa issue of Vanity Fair; the music issue of Elle; Healing Makes Our Hearts Happy: Spirituality and Cultural Transformation among the Kalahari Ju|'hoansi by Richard Katz, Megan Biesele & Verna St. Denis
Wearing: perfectly faded baby-blue t-shirt from Camp Alottafun in Pico Rivera; some Old Navy shorts; really old black ballet flats; my No Age bandana (navy-blue), worn as a headband; slightly Jackie-O-esque sunglasses. (This is my playing-catch-football-on-the-beach-in-Malibu-with-my-little-brother outfit, BTW.)
Coveting: the Simply Vera chiffon dress with ribbon straps that Kat posted about the other day; a thousand tins of Raspberry Earl Grey Zhena's Gypsy Tea

+ Laura

Listening: The Wombles, The Very Best Of The Wombles; "Song of Solomon" from Dat Rosa Mel Apibus by White Magic; Katie Briggs; The Jackson Five; "Funky Stuff" by Lizzy Mercier Descloux (who also happens to be an eternal fashion inspiration of mine: yowza!)
Watching: The first season of Carnivale on DVD with my boyfriend (we're currently averaging at about three episodes per day); embarrassingly enough, a multitude of reality TV shows including but not limited to American Inventor, On The Lot, and the one where people impersonate celebrities
Reading: Richard Dawkins' biting, incisive and often hilarious The God Delusion; hella tabloids; The What Claudia Wore blog (I hate myself for not thinking of this idea first! In April, I started doing an art project called "Claudia Kishi Fashion Week 07" wherein I attempted to costume myself a la Claudia for a week, but fell flat after a couple days because, well, there's just no competing with the real thing)
Wearing: tie-dye; Soundgirl's madras short-alls- seriously the best thing I've ever owned; my trusty Dinosaurs t-shirt (I've been wearing it consistently for the past seventeen years); novelty Vans slip-ons- I've been feeling very Jeff Spicoli as of late
Coveting: Built By Wendy baseball jacket in khaki; more members of The String Doll Gang (so far I have the Red Devil and the Witchy Woman; Thelma and Cave Bear are definitely next in line); tomorrow's trip to LaRonde (in celebration of my 22nd birthday!); many, many macrobiotic scones from Souen
