Friday Slack-Off Fun: A to Z Fashion Survey

(It's Friday! Who wants to do actual work? Let's just fill out silly surveys from the Internet! Boo to productivity!)
A: What accessories do you wear everyday?
Kat: Just a ring that my dad gave me for my birthday a long time ago. Gold with a ruby and some diamonds.
Liz: I always wear a necklace, most often my Erica Weiner coyote tooth necklace or the one with the big golden bird charm.
Laura: Lately I have been wearing my silver ring with a Native American (or Canadian, possibly) chief's head on it every day, and sometimes a ring with a moonstone on it too. And I totally overwear my Incredible String Band-chapeau (see Day 87), but mostly just because my hair is dirty. Sometimes I even stick a feather in it!
B: What is your beauty routine?
Kat: Jan Marini bioglycolic face wash, Alba Botanica toner, Grassroots SPF 15 Happily Ever After moisturizer for day, American Beauty Overnight Radiance Cream at night (total genius item for me).
Liz: Lately it's Cetaphil mixed with a little bit of Lush's Angels on Bare Skin (at night). I also spray Caudalie Grape Water or rosewater on my face several times throughout the day. And once a week I use this Bliss facial scrub and then do an Aubrey Organics Blue Green Algae Mask. Oh, and Nature's Gate SPF 50 sunscreen, every single day!
Laura: I don't really have one.
C: What was the last item of clothing (for yourself) that you purchased?
Kat: Honestly, I don't remember...a jumper in Iceland at the local flea market.
Liz: I had a little shopping spree a couple weeks ago and bought a C & C California organic-cotton tank and organic-cotton tank dress, a pair of Rocawear skinny jeans (yes!!), and this really cute ocean-blue Free People beaded tank top that I haven't worn nearly enough yet.
Laura: It's my Dad's birthday today! Happy Birthday, Dad! I bought him this Free Gold Watch t-shirt of the Le Tigre tiger and Lacoste alligator fighting to the death.
D: Do you use a dresser, closet, or both?
Kat: Just a closet. I don't have room for a dresser.
Liz: I have three closets and a dresser.
Laura: A closet, and a pile of jeans folded on my bedroom floor.
E: What type of earrings are in your ears right now?
Kat: Not wearing earrings at the moment, but I love them.
Liz: None; I fear earrings, though my ears are indeed pierced.
Laura: I don't have my ears pierced. Earrings look stupid on me. They make me look like a lame loser mommy.
F: What type of figure do you have (measurements)?
Kat: What a stupid question. I have a totally average figure.
Liz: Madonna in the "Lucky Star" video. (Just kidding, or am I?)
Laura: A seven-year-old boy's.
G: Do you wear glasses?
Kat: Yes.
Liz: Yes! But only when I'm driving or at the movies or attending some sort of event where I need to see things from far away.
Laura: I am blind as a bat! Since I am also vain, I wear contact lenses from the moment I wake up until the second before I hit the hay, but I have some translucent burgundy plastic Gucci frames for when specs are integral to the conceptualization of a given Look.
H: What type of handbag do you carry?
Kat: One of those Anya Hindmarch for Target bags right now. I can fit a laptop in it, which is key these days. I had a Marc Jacobs satin-y quilted bag that I loved, but it got caught in a snow/hail storm in Iceland and got destroyed. I have a few other handbags as well. They're really classic, but I love them and have had them forever.
Liz: This Lucky Brand tote, which is way cuter in real life.
Laura: This week I've been carrying my Proenza for Target briefcase-y purse thing. It way classes shit up.
I: What is your ideal style?
Kat: I like a bit of grace and a bit of grunge. Lately I like the style of Tina Chow, Kate Lanphear, Amanda Harlech, Marguerite Duras and Dita Von Teese. If I could mash those up into one person, that'd be awesome. Sometimes I like things to be feminine, other times boyish, sometimes sexy, sometimes sober -- but I like for all things to have a bit of simplicity and ease these days.
Liz: Ummm, usually I really hate Allure magazine, but I was looking through the November issue fashion spread this morning at my doctor's office, and I think that might be my ideal style. It's all flowy and dreamy and sparkly but in a subdued/unshowy kinda way. I love! Gimme!
Laura: Lizzy Mercier Descloux meets White Album-era John Lennon meets George Harrison in The Beatles Anthology when he's singing "For You Blue" wearing crocheted jammer-boots meets my mental picture of F. Jasmine Addams in Carson McCullers' The Member of the Wedding
J: What is your favorite brand of jeans?
Kat: J Brand, Corpus. Usually skinny, although I have an awesome wide-legged pair that I got at a mall in New Jersey about a year ago. I wear lots of jeans, so usually I try to buy nice ones 'cause I wear them so much.
Liz: Chip & Pepper, though those Rocawear jeans are really working out for me.
Laura: J Brand, Miss Sixtys are wicked awesome, nothing will ever beat my twenty-buck drainies from Wal-Mart.
K: Do you wear knee-hi stockings?
Kat: Another stupid question. I'm going to change this to: What are your favorite brand of knickers? And then I'm going to answer: Gap Body. And Araks, but I can only receive those as gifts because they are expensive.
Liz: No, but I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you all about my hot new halfway-up-the-calf stockings that I'm in love with. They're gauzy and silky and midnight-blue and there's a few inches of adorable little ruffles at the top. Fantastic!
Laura: Yes! I wore knee-highs today, even! They were brown. I wore them with grey stockings, brown boots, a purple-ish plaid dress with cinching at the waist, and my Incredible String Band hat with a feather stuck in it.
L: Do you *have* to wear matching lingerie?
Kat: NO. Who the fuck cares?
Liz: What Kat said.
Laura: YES. You have to.
M: Do you wear makeup?
Kat: Sometimes mascara and eyeliner, sometimes red lipstick. Usually I don't wear makeup.
Liz: I wear Bare Escentuals mineral makeup and a little bit of NARS blush, mascara and my new Yves Saint Laurent lipstick.
Laura: I overdo it on the Fresh Supernova mascara, put on some concealer to compensate for lack of a beauty routine, and wear NARS lipstick in either Jungle Red or Roman Holiday, or Carmex.
N: Do you wear nightgowns?
Kat: No. Usually tank top and either a cotton-y loose pant, pajama bottom or shorts. Simple!
Liz: tanks/tees + boxers, for the most part. Why do you care what I sleep in, you big weirdo?
Laura: T-shirt and underwear. HOT, HUH?
O: What outerwear do you put on when going out on a typical winter's day?
Kat: I have a red wool kind of school girl coat that I love, and an army green type of one. I also have a black leather slightly deconstructed motorcycle jacket that I try to wear as long as possible, till it's way too cold. It's the Kate Moss rip-off of the Rick Owens jacket. Sadly, the Rick Owens one is way out of my price range.
Liz: The only thing I wear in winter that I wouldn't wear other times of the year is my little sister's hip-length camel suede coat with big faux-fur cuffs and extravagant faux-fur collar.
Laura: Coat-wise, I wear either my ratty faux-fur bomber, champagne hooded puffa from GapKids, or weird red puppy-themed thing. I have a long orange scarf with a lot of holes in it that I've been wearing since high school, and couple it with cheapie gloves that I lose and buy over and over again. And Sorel boots, which I don't want to talk about because they depress me.
P: What is your favorite perfume?
Kat: Chanel Coco Mademoiselle is my perennial, I think -- I like patchouli-based fragrances a lot, they work well with my skin chemistry. Kai, because it's the only gardenia scent that I like. Dior Homme. Last spring I liked Jo Malone White Jasmine and Mint. Lately I have been getting into Angel again (more patchouli), and someone gave me a sample of Hanae Mori that I am intrigued by. I can't believe there's no vanilla in it, but apparently it is berries and woods, and it smells totally delicious. I have a ridiculous love for fragrances; I really want to learn to make some one day.
Liz: I love Pacifica perfumes soooooo much. Right now my favorite's Avalon Juniper, but the Waikiki Pikake and Malibu Lemon Blossom are also to die for.
Laura: Depending on my mood, I wear either Stella McCartney, Lolita Lempicka, or Tobacco Caramel from Fresh.
Q: Is your motto "quality over quantity" when it comes to clothing and accessories?
Kat: Yes, I much prefer to buy a lot fewer but nicer things. Having a small closet and no time to shop will do that for you.
Liz: Yes, but it's taken me a long time to start to live that out rather than just think it in my big head.
Laura: No.
R: Do you wear rain boots?
Kat: Yes, I have a thermal lined pair by Tamara Henriques that I love. They are so old now, probably seven.
Liz: It never rains in Southern California...Which is a lie, but: no, I don't have rain boots.
Laura: I have some plaid ones from J.Crew. They're alright.
S: Do you wear socks or slippers when your feet get cold?
Kat: My feet rarely get cold -- they are always too hot.
Liz: I have three pairs of fuzzy socks that I'm kind of in love with. I also have these really sleek-black furry slippers that give me happy feet in a major way. (Unlike Kat, my feet are often cold. Ol' Popsicle Toes Barker, that's what they call me.)
Laura: Yes.
T: Do you have a set of travel luggage?
Kat: No, I just have some random stuff I got at Target. I like plain, anonymous bags; I want to get a set of army bags for travel.
Liz: No, I have a Samsonite wheely bag thing I stole from my little sister, who decorated it with pink and white gimp.
Laura: No. I usually use this really killer Guatemalan-y duffel bag I got at the Oxford Circus Topshop.
U: What is your daily uniform?
Kat: Skinny jeans, boots, t-shirt/tank/top/, either a jacket or a cardigan depending on the day. This is for fall; I have yet to come up with a summer uniform. I hate summer, fashion-speaking.
Liz: Lately I've been breaking away from jeans + t-shirt + cowboy boots and going for sleeveless dress + furry hooded vest (but not my "Beautifully Worn" furry hooded vest!) + cowboy boots. One of the best things about Los Angeles is you will always be able to get away with the ridiculousness of faux-fur hood + sleeveless dress, so long as the temp's below 70 degrees.
Laura: Since I am the Ultimate Fashion Champion, this question does not apply to me. My outfits vary immensely from one day to the next, and they are ALWAYS high-concept. My uniform is a non-uniform.
V: If you are married, did you wear a veil with your wedding dress?
Kat: Not applicable. But I wouldn't wear a veil, for sure.
Liz: Yes. (Lying again: I am unwed.)
Laura: Veils are for losers, unless you wore one, are reading this, and are cool. There is an exception to every rule.
W: Do you wear a watch?
Kat: No. But I want a really nice men's watch, I'm ready to feel the burdens of time again.
Liz: I love Kat's answer! In fact, it's so good that I'm not going to provide my own.
Laura: Hells no. I don't believe in time. It's an illusion.
X: What item of clothing always makes you feel beautiful?
Kat: I have a miraculous Balenciaga dress that makes everyone who wears it look amazing. It is like the Sisterhood of Traveling Dress, it's been borrowed by close friends so many times. I have an Alaia dress that hangs so beautifully as well. Those designers, man, they know what they're doing.
Liz: I haven't actually even worn it out yet, but the scarf I bought last summer on Martha's Vineyard makes me feel beautiful when I put it on and practice being the Snow Queen in my apartment.
Laura: Beauty comes from within. Duh.
Y: What is your favorite type of yarn?
Kat: Wha'? Alpaca, from Peru?
Liz: I can't even name a type of yarn, let alone designate it as my favorite.
Laura: Personally, I am familiar with the ins and outs of every single variety of yarn in the world, but I'm choosing to keep that information to myself, so Kat and Liz don't feel stupid.
Z: Do you prefer zippers or buttons?
Kat: I used to say buttons, but lately I like zippers. The 90s are back!
Liz: Buttons, I guess. No, zippers. No: buttons. Who cares?
Laura: Ziptons.
