Snapshot: Listening, Watching, Reading, Wearing, Wanting
+ Kat
Listening: The Misfits, New Order, old and new mixtapes, plus all the bad yet glorious 80s metal that I listen to when I go running in Riverside Park
Watching: Man, nearly every film in my school's film festival -- that's a lot of films! But I'm going to watch "Gossip Girl" later today after I deal with all my piled-up freelance work and everything will be better.
Reading: The Keep by Jennifer Egan, who I think is really one of my favorite contemporary authors. She's just so damn good, smart, risky, and there's always something in her work that is subtle but utterly riveting.
Wearing: I'm just wearing Uniqlo skinny jeans, a Martin Margiela sweater and ballet flats (I feel like this is my uniform), but the best thing of all is Frederic Malle's Carnal Flower perfume, which is hands down the best tuberose fragrance I have ever smelled. I am usually not a tuberose fan, but this is really beautiful...kind of demure yet voluptuous, and it develops beautifully on the skin. I'm more a woodsy/oriental girl when it comes to perfumes but this may be the one floral fragrance that I am deeply in love with.
Wanting: Obvs, a bottle of Carnal Flower!
I like to listen to Ratt's "Round and Round" in the last 15 minutes of my run. The philosophical question is: am I running with the song, or am I really running away from it because it's so deeply cheesy? And dude, this video features a cross-dressing Milton Berle! Score!
+ Liz
Listening: I actually wasn't just being funny when I said I only ever listen to the same CSNY record on repeat all the time. It's true.
Watching: Gossip Girl and The Hills. And then I immediately read the recaps on Gawker, aka my favorite ish in the world right now. Maybe the best bit from this week's GG write-up: "Yeah, Rufus showed up at the Give Gideon Money to Make This Episode Happen party, and he sadly asked to invest his savings. Gideon blinked at him and said 'You want me to invest a Mac Perfoma and a framed headshot of Liv Tyler?' And Rufus nodded gravely." Or, perhaps: "Meanwhile on the Upper Beast Side, Sereenz was having sex with a wooden clock that someone put a magic spell on and made animate. All Gideon does is tick-tock with his big stupid cuckoo face, and Serena falls crazy in love with him. Everything about him is perfect! Except for everything about him." Gahhh!!! SO GREAT! Plus State of Play (in a word: "Good!").
Reading: Aziz Ansari's Twitter, which I love mostly because he eats a lot of really awesome food (like, yesterday he had CHOCOLATE DONUT ICE CREAM, and I'm still not over it). BTW, remind me to tell you my Aziz Ansari story sometime. It's actually not very exciting, but maybe you'll be mildly amused. I'm also reading all of LJ's amazing posts from the last week.
Wearing: my "post-surf uniform" of cutoffs & Vans & beanie & a non-zip-up-style hoodie advertising a now-defunct bank from my hometown
Wanting: to catch a wave, man! And I want Johnny Depp's character on SpongeBob to be my surf teacher.
"HAIL, OH GREAT SWAMI OF THE GNARLY POUNDERS!"
(I'm totally Patrick in this situation, FYI.)
+ Laura Jane
Listening: Os Mutantes; Curt Boettcher, There's An Innocent Face (this is a very lovely and floral and subdued album that I recommend to anybody who thinks nature is cool); "Bats Over the Pacific Ocean" by Jaguar Love (if you want to be more like me, you can listen to this killer song yourself right this exact second (!), because Elizabeth Barker played it in our most recent installment of Heavy Rotation.
Watching: As per usuelle, I watched "LOST" and "America's Next Top Stupid Dumb Loser," but otherwise, I haven't watched a single thing this week! Well, that's not necessarily true- I watched the streets, many dogs, buildings, flora, people sitting across from me, the numbers on the elevator, and my face in the mirror.
Reading: My favourite Yoko Ono Twitter (sorry, I refuse to say "tweet") yet: "Let's report to the Universe how glad we are that our planet is part of the most beautiful Universe"; the polar opposite of Yoko Ono's Twitter, Nicole Richie's Twitter, which I am, quite frankly, obsessed with. She's way less dumb than I thought she is; it's really fun to read old nogoodforme.com posts: the other day I re-read my entire Ultimate Fashion Challenge, and also every Heavy Rotation ever. DUDE, WHERE'S OUR BOOK DEAL?
Wearing: Anni Albers sweatshirt; grey knit harem-y pants; Kill City tie-dyed jeans; Black San & Soni trousers; Josie Maran tinted moisturizer, AKA the BEST SHIT EVS.
Wanting: I wish it was today, which it is, so that's nice for me. To take my wish one step further, I wish it was seven hours from now, so that I would be drunk and eating at Utopia Cafe, which anybody with all five senses intact would realize is the best restaurant in Toronto; I also want to go on a date to an NBA basketball game.
A VERY POOR QUALITY VIDEO OF "PANIS ET CIRCENSES," MY SECOND-FAVOURITE OS MUTANTES SONG (If you can guess my first-favourite Os Mutantes song, you win a prize, I swear it):
