Random Picture Entry: Avant Garde Magazine, Issue #11
Remember when it was June 24th, 2009, AKA my 24th birthday, AKA one of the best days that anybody has ever lived in the entirety of human/non-human history? I do. (Aside: I just wanted everybody to know that you are NO LONGER ALLOWED to leave a comment on "Let It Beat," since it ended up at exactly 24 comments, and I want to preserve that) My 24th-fest was killer, though I am now officially "birthday-ed out," and relishing in non-celebrating my boring non-birthday life for the next year or so.
Out of the twenty-four trillion amazing things that happened to happen to me on June 24th, 2009, one of the coolest was unexpectedly getting an issue of Avant Garde magazine from nogoodforme reader (and fellow Cancerian) Calli, who unexpectedly guessed that "Ave Lucifer" was my favourite Os Mutantes song, and won a prize for it. I remember learning about Avant Garde when I was at design school; I've always wanted to get my grubby paws on a copy. Thank you, Calli, for helping make my dreams come true!
As we recently discussed, I am disinterested in acknowledging that John Lennon's sexuality exists, so I wasn't super-stoked on looking at lithographs of him going down on Yoko Ono. But everything else in the mag looks fly as a fly (??? Is this something I'm going to start saying now? I hope so/not); seen below are Avant Garde's choice-est moments:

LEFT: front cover, really digging on the pop of yellow. Such a sweet little drawing; RIGHT: back cover- Holy Hell, have I ever wanted anything more in my life than the Avant-Garde Sit-In? It is hard for me to comprehend that there was a time in history (March, 1970) when you could buy a chair that sick for ten bucks off the back of a magazine

LEFT: Oh, Fornicon! A series of "bizarrely erotic drawings" representing sex as "a macabre, machine-dominated ritual wherein technology triumphs over humanity," according to Playboy? Sign me up, Scotty!; CENTRE: Considering changing my name to Laura "A Day For A Lay" Jane Faulds- this Auden shit is mad dirty, like, "I raised the delicious meat up into my mouth," and that's like the least dirty line of the whole thing!; RIGHT: Like the cover of Revolver, only crappier, and five years after the fact

LEFT: The Masthead, obviously gorgeous; RIGHT: the only thing I want more than an Avant Garde Sit-In is an Avant Garde Stash Bag- a mere $5! 1970 was a Utopia.

ABOVE: "Oragenitalism" is way less cool to me than Fornicon, but, designickally speaking, I'm really charmed by the block of red text

ABOVE: This lithograph is cool to me, because it's non-sexual. Good on you, John Lennon! Speaking of the phrase "Good on you!"- I always say it, because my therapist always says it, and I picked it up from her. Now people are starting to pick it up from me, so I feel like everybody is my therapist.

Say something so insightful and witty, it will blow us away. (No pressure.)
Got something to say? We'd love to hear it! Name, email and "type in the weirdo drunken text" thingie are all required to comment; don't worry, we won't email you or anything, we just want to make sure you're not an evil spambot. Keeping in mind the good-times mentality we like to keep going here, we've worked hard to keep NOGOODFORME.COM as fun as possible. We welcome all kinds of comments, but insults/abuse/general bitchery are not tolerated. In other words, we put the smackdown on evil troll posts. If you want to be a hater, please go elsewhere. Now, as Salt 'N Pepa say, "Only the sexy people..."

I want to see this in person.
