Yum: A NOGOODFORME.COM Summer Tea Party (With No Tea, But Lots Of Booze)

(L to R: Chef Panama Jack; our happy little tea party table; Liz getting totally plastered off of Gin-A-Loupe Cooler.)
While it's good to spend a hotter-than-a-two-dollar-pistol summer afternoon knocking back lime-juicy Pacificos on the front porch, sometimes we like to class it up a little, put on our pretty sundresses, and throw ourselves a tea party. Except instead of tea there's gin - lots and lots and lots of gin. And tea sandwiches, and a really pretty salad, all created by nogoodforme recipe developer Hallie Faben (whom you may remember from last summer's Tom Yum Pops, Samosa Salad, and Vegan Thai Pesto Slaw). Because we're so adorable, we're sharing all the recipes with you. Enjoy, and get in touch with any questions/praise.

TEA SAMMIES
-2 small cucumbers (Kirby aka pickling or Persian, or anything without a thick, waxed rind), cut into thin slices
-8 ounces plain cream cheese, softened
-2 tsp fresh-cracked black pepper
-8 slices of white bread (we used potato bread)
1. Blend black pepper into cream cheese (we used a stiff plastic spatula)
2. Evenly spread cream cheese-pepper blend onto all bread slices
3. Add a layer of cucumber slices to all bread slices
4. Smoosh pairs of bread slices together, till each has a mate
5. Gently but firmly cut off crusts, then cut sandwich in half

"CUMIN GET IT!" SAMMIES
(Sure to "curry" some favor with your friends... HarHarHar)
-8 ounces plain cream cheese, softened
-2 tsp curry powder
-8 slices of white bread
-4 tbsp mango chutney
1. Blend curry powder into cream cheese
2. Evenly spread cream cheese-curry blend onto all 8 bread slices
3. Evenly spread 1 tbsp mango chutney each onto four of the bread slices
4. Pair each chutney-spread slice with a chutney-less slice, then smoosh slices together
5. Gently but firmly cut off crusts

THE NO-CAL SAL
(FYI: It's not really calorie-free. But it's "lite," and "No-Cal Sal" is totally what we'd name it if we worked for goddamn Redbook or something.)
-25 jumbo shrimp, pre-cooked, cleaned, with tails on (if frozen, thaw according to directions on package)
-2 tbsp of fresh, finely chopped basil (about a handful of leaves, pre-chop)
-8 stalks of celery, chopped into thin half-moons
-white balsamic vinegar
-olive oil
-1/4 tsp sea salt
1. Toss shrimp, basil, and celery into a lovely salad bowl
2. Add a few generous glugs each of vinegar and olive oil
3. Season with salt
4. Toss again, lovingly

GIN-A-LOUPE COOLER
-1 large cantaloupe
-1 cucumber
-1/4 cup white sugar
-1 cup water
-1 cup gin (we used Bombay Sapphire, because the bottle's so fetching)
-1 cup ice
1. Cut cantaloupe in half, scoop out the seeds
2. Take one half of the cantaloupe and scoop out the flesh into a large bowl, making sure to include the juice drip
3. Peel cucumber and chop into 1/2-inch chunks, then toss into bowl with cantaloupe
4. Slice second cantaloupe half into pretty slices (to be used for cocktail garnish)
5. Fill up 3/4 of your blender with the cantaloupe-cucumber mixture
6. Add sugar and water and blend (set to "liquefy") about 30 seconds
7. Add any remaining cantaloupe-cucumber mixture and blend until completely pureed
8. Pour into pitcher and chill in fridge till it's time to serve
9. At serving time, add gin and ice. Keep wooden spoon handy in case the cocktail separates.
10. Garnish each glass with a cantaloupe slice

SUMMER SNOW
-1 large honeydew melon
- 1/4 cup white sugar
-1 cup water
-1 cup gin
-1 cup ice
1. Cut honeydew in half, scoop out the seeds
2. Scoop honeydew flesh into a large bowl, making sure to include the juice
3. Fill up 3/4 of your blender with honeydew
4. Add sugar and water and blend (set to "liquefy") about 30 seconds
5. Add any remaining honeydew and blend until completely pureed
6. Use a mesh strainer to strain out the snow-like melon froth
7. Pour into pitcher and chill in fridge till it's time to serve
8. At serving time, add gin and ice

(Except for the "Summer Snow" pic, all photos accompanying the recipes were taken Melissa Greer. Everything else was shot by Elizabeth "Black Eyes" Barker. Thanks, Mel! Thanks, Hallie! Thanks all tea-party attendees!)

Have you ever seen somebody lick the chutney spoon in an Indian Restaurant and put it back? This would never have happened under the Tories.
