Snapshot: Listening, Watching, Reading, Wearing, Wanting
+ Kat
Listening: The Konki Duet, which I listen to while working on one screenplay, and then Love and Rockets' Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven and Ministry's The Land of Rape and Honey, which I listen to when I work on another. My imaginative universe's very schizo these days, as you can tell.
Watching: THX 1138 (visually amazing, total sci-fi cult classic, the only genuinely artistic work that George Lucas has ever done); White Material (Claire Denis and Isabelle Huppert: total cinematic geniuses); A Serious Man (the new Coen Brothers, which is a very dark comedy or a very comedic dark drama, depending on your perspective. Not their best work, but I definitely think about the movie afterwards in a way that usually doesn't happen with a Coen Brothers movie. Also, Roger Deakins = definitely one of the best cinematographers working today, I think I'd see a film on the big screen just knowing he shot it); An Education (a nice movie made great by a fantastic performance by Carey Mulligan.) Fuck, I watch a lot of movies, right?
Reading: Oh, I finished Atmospheric Disturbances by Rivka Galchen and lovedlovedloved it. This Snapshot is in danger of me hijacking it in favor of writing a lot on this book, that's how much I dug it. It's very Murakami-like, with a kind of surrealist/comic feeling to it, but it's very moving at the end and made me cry. Up next: Wayne Koestenbaum's Jackie Under My Skin, and the latest ish of The Economist 'cause I'm a nerd.
Wearing: It's cold! Like winter-cold! So coats and my Acne sweater and boots and cherry-red lipgloss and fuzzy hats! So happy!
Wanting: Do you like notecards and mail and being a sweetheart? Genius stationers Linda & Harriett are doing a "Just Because" promotion where you send them your name and mailing address and they'll send you a notecard and envelope to send to a loved one "just because." DO IT! Details here; you have to send them your info by noon EST on Monday! DO IT!
The trailer for A Serious Man:
+ Laura Jane
Listening: "Takeover" by Jay-Z has really "taken over" my life this week; "Supersonic Rocket Ship" by the Kinks; The Troggs; THE BEASTIE BOYS
Watching: It was really cool when I took myself out to see Love Happens alone. I really related to Aaron Eckhardt's character. I really enjoy the television show House. Last but not least, a little something I like to call Ad-Rock Goes Back To School, the best thing to hit Youtube since that Kinks video where Ray Davies drools on himself
Reading: Anabela recently Twittered about this blog named Sweet Fine Day, which is a blog run by people who live my dream life, so I kind of hate them, because I am jealous of them. But really, I love them. THOSE LITTLE GIRLS!!!
Wearing: In a phase where so long as I am wearing red lipstick and high-heeled boots, I feel pretty much okay.
Wanting: Probably this Licensed To Ill hoodie. I think it would look really hot with red lipstick and high-heeled boots.
