Snapshot: Listening, Watching, Reading, Wearing, Wanting
+ Kat
Listening: D.A.F, Alles Ist Gut; all my Swedish ladies I wrote about this week; the Pretenders; the first Bat for Lashes record; Calla, Scavengers
Watching: it get dark so early these days! Also, my Facebook husband sent me this link below to old-school SNL "Sprockets" sketch, back from the days when SNL was actually really funny. For personal and deeply affectionate reasons, I'm very into things that make fun of Germans now.
Reading: The Berlin Wall issue of The Economist; Maira Kalman, The Principles of Uncertainty (I LOVE THIS BOOK); Jean Shinoda Bolan, Goddesses In Everywoman: Powerful Archetypes in Women's Lives, which is also great.
Wearing: I post a lot of my outfits over at my Twitter now so I don't have to fill this out anymore!
Wanting: People to send me more "Sprockets" videos!
AND IF YOU WERE A GAS...YOU'D BE INERT...OH, "SPROCKETS"!:
sprockets germany's most disturbing videos
Uploaded by pentakatharidis. - Full seasons and entire episodes online.
+ Liz
Listening: The other day one of my Pandora stations played "Dig A Pony" by The Beatles and then "I'll Do 4 U" by Father MC. It was cool. And I gave myself permission to listen to my favorite song on Wednesday night, which was cool as well.
Watching: the most raddest pinkest most fiery-beautiful sunset I've ever seen, last night on the beach when I was shivering like crazy because the ocean is just way too cold! Also: Mad Men.
Reading: Paul McCartney: A Life by George Carlin, or someone else with the last name Carlin; re-reading Dancing Queen by Lisa Crystal Carver and reminiscing about the time Lisa MySpaced me to tell me we look alike.
Wearing: my zebra-striped skirt and the yellow tank and faux-leather jacket I bought at Crossroads last Monday in the middle of doing my laundry. My fave $19 outfit evs.
Wanting: Many things: more of the butter cake Emily Richmond and I ate last weekend in San Luis Obispo; one of those polar bear cookies Laura keeps talking about; a new house; a haircut; a zillion hours in every day; patience; to be smart at red lipstick; a dog; a good new crush; Frye boots; high-quality sunglasses; for Paul McCartney to read nogoodforme; another dog, and I think that's it, for now.
At first I was bummed about my right eye being cut off but then I decided just to post this pic anyway. And: Happy Belated Bday, Sesame Street!

+ Laura Jane
Listening: The Idle Race, The Idle Race (in particular, "A Better Life (The Weatherman Knows)", which is perfect); ELO; Roy Wood, Boulders; the playlist on my iTunes/Pod named "laura jane in november"; "That's Not My Name" by Dizzee Rascal, a song I will for all eternity equate with a hugely pivotal step in my personal journey toward self-actualization- how hilarious! After "beautiful", "hilarious" is second-best.
Watching: The Mad Men season finale was the best thing I've ever seen and I just want to watch it over and over again forever and ever and ever until I die and that will be my life. I am now in love with Roger Sterling. That lovable cad!
Reading: Our cookies post was pretty rockin'
Wearing: My hair is long but I want it to be longer. I'm really into button-up shirts and either all-black or all-white.
Wanting: A Starbucks polar bear cookie shaped like Paul McCartney's face
If I were The Girl In The Beatles, this outfit is what I'd wear while recording The White Album:

PS: JOHN LENNON IS FUNNY!!!!!

Reader version:
Listening: Morbid Angel's "Altars of Madness", Enslaved's "RUUN", Louvin Brothers, and mainstream country music on the radio
Watching: For the arrival of a URI alum I've not seen in 10 years. Also: "Scandal Sheet" and "Clockers".
Reading: "The Corner" by Simon and Burns, "A History of the Vikings" by Gwyn Jones, and random bits from "The Dark Stuff: Selected Writings on Rock Music."
Wearing: dressy work clothes or derby t-shirts. Doesn't vary much.
Wanting: To be at the WFTDA National Tournament in Philadelphia this weekend.

also when this ep first aired i was 12 and thought mike myers was saying 'if you were a gas you'd be a nert.' and i didn't know what a 'nert' was but that just made it funnier. so this is the first time i've realized what he was really saying. thanks, kat!
and i was going to promise that this would be my final comment on this entry, but who knows? this snapshot's a real conversation-stimulator!

Liz-
It's Jade. She's in town for the Old Crow Medicine Show tonight.
And to update my watching: This afternoon, on the sly at work, Derby News Network's webcast of the opening bouts in the national tournament.
By Masonic Youth on November 13, 2009 5:04 PM
I liked Mike Myers for the most part but I thought "Sprockets" sucked. For the most part. And this is a guy who taped a lot of SNL in high school during the early 90s.
Liz: Sorry I didn't answer earlier. You'd probably love "The Dark Stuff." It's all about Syd Barrett and Brian Jones and the Stones and Iggy Pop and late-era Miles Davis.
I got it from the library and I read it mostly on the can, haha.

Ugh. Drinking and posting late nite comments are a bad mix.
I apologize for the crassness in that last comment, NGFM staff. I wouldn't object if it was deleted altogether.
By Masonic Youth on November 14, 2009 12:05 PM
I've heard much crasser in my time. Especially out of my own mouth, I mean hands, on this very blog

You don't know me but I read your blog and I think it's hilarious/great. With that out of the way:
1. today I went to Starbucks looking for Polar Bear Cookies but no luck.
2. the other day I found the White Album in my landlord's record collection and I played it while I cleaned my kitchen, and it was awesome.
3. today I bought on Itunes: Shakira's Hips Don't Lie World Cup mix. Also Beyonce: Crazy in Love, and Coldplay: Viva la Vida, but ONLY because I wanted to hear it last Saturday while I was so happy to be outside in non-freezy weather.
4. I truly appreciate y'all introducing me to Selda, Little Dragon, and Betty Davis, they have all changed my life and made it onto my own heavy rotation.
By Amy on November 16, 2009 2:51 AM
amy, thanks for reading! i guess the mystery of the Polar Bear Cookies continues. i have yet to see them at my own local starbuckses myself, which makes me sad because now i really want to try one. and always glad to hear when people enjoy the music we've shared...that is why we do it! sharing is caring! xo k.

THX so much Amy! I'm really stoked you like Selda and Betty Davis.
POLAR BEAR COOKIE UPDATE: I was beginning to think that they were maybe a Canada-only thing, but a reader from Florida inquired at her local Starbucks who reported that they would be "arriving soon". So don't give up, guys! POLAR BEAR COOKIES ARE ON THE WAY
