Snapshot: Listening, Watching, Reading, Wearing, Wanting
+ Kat
Listening: Wolves in the Throne Room (METAL!), Joanna Newsom, Arms, more
Watching: "Gossip Girl," Red Road (sooooooo good, I'd forgotten how awesome this movie was), the beautiful Vermeer painting at the Met till November 29, and "City Paradise" because it always makes me happy. Such beautiful "animation" and happy spirit and authentic charm.
Reading: Jackie Under My Skin by Wayne Koestenbaum (really enjoying it so far, very smart), so many articles on the web
Wearing: I told you! You can look at my Twitter now to see what I'm wearing! But RIGHT AT THIS MINUTE: Uniqlo skinny jeans, a dark blue cashmere Uniqlo sweater, ballet flats, wet hair
Wanting: For my insomnia to stop! I always get a superbad "flareup" of it for a few weeks after any time change.
Maybe "City Paradise" will make you happy, too?
+ Liz
Listening: my set list from my DJ debut Wednesday night! It's got Tom Tom Club and Funkadelic and The Beatles and Kim Fowley and Yo! Majesty and Cyndi Lauper and many other good things, because I'm so awesome and wonderful.
Watching: Away We Go, which I hated so much but at least Josh Hamilton was in it for five seconds. And, speaking of Josh Hamilton, last Saturday morn I rewatched Diggers and it's still the loveliest.
Reading: my Paul McCartney book and magazines like Elle and New York
Wearing: blue jeans + Bruce Springsteen tee + zebra-striped ballet flats + black knit beret
Wanting: I really "want" to get into the habit of subduedly exclaiming "A thing like that!" whenever wowed, a la my creepy crush Pete Campbell. I thought I'd be bad at it, but I tried it out the other night at Def Before Disco and a few people dropped dead at how amazing it sounded. AND I WANT ANOTHER POLAR BEAR COOKIE!
The Diggers trailer, which I've posted on nogoodforme before but it so deserves an encore:
+ Laura Jane
Listening: Os Mutantes, "Panis et Circenses"; Curt Boettcher, "Bobby California"; Sandy Salisbury, "Do Unto Others" and "Spell On Me (Pt. II)"; Red Rose Speedway by Paul, especially "Little Lamb Dragonfly." Does anybody else think that the dragonfly in "Little Lamb Dragonfly" is John Lennon? I mostly do.
Watching: I probably watched the "Another Girl" video like thirty-five times this week. Then I watched HELP!
Reading: It was so sad/beautiful when Yoko Ono Twittered, "John use[d] to say "I love you" every day. I didn't understand then, how lucky I was"
Wearing: You know what I should do today? MY LAUNDRY
Wanting: I'm not really sure what a Big Barn Bed is, I just know that I want one.
A DAY IS NOT COMPLETE UNTIL I HAVE DEVOTED MINIMUM FIFTEEN MINUTES OF IT TO "PAUL McCARTNEY PSYCHOANALYSIS":

The Starbucks on campus finally had polar bear cookies yesterday. It was so exciting.

Kat, have you heard Krallice? Some of my favorite black metal ever AND they're from New York.

Kat: Where'd you get your flats at? I need a place to replace the ones I wore to death over the summer.
Ben: Did you go to the Kralice show at Union Pool? I heard it was amazing.

I did love it, and I usually don't like sugar cookies.

JP, Totally great show. Krallice could be one of my fav local bands now... Orphan and Liturgy were really good too.

I'm jealous. I was working that night, and I missed Skeletonwitch the following night since they sold out so fast.
By JP on November 22, 2009 12:16 PM
JP: Believe it or not, my flats are from Target. I don't know how, but they've lasted about 3-4 years!
Ben: I missed that Krallice show! I was really bummed about it. Where you there? Do tell!

Yay on the metal, Kat. I've only heard "Two Hunters" from Wolves in the Throne Room, but I really like it when I'm in the right mood.
I was in a heapin' metal mood over the weekend too, when I was traveling between a roller derby bout in Appomattox (where the Civil War ended! History!) and a Sarah Palin book-signing I had to cover.
My playlist included:
Carcass - Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious
Death - Symbolic
Amon Amarth - With Oden on Our Side
and
Dark Tranquility - Damage Done

Masonic: if I had to cover a Sarah Palin book-signing, I would have to amp up the metal as an antidote myself! Two Hunters is so good -- vastness and sorrow indeed! xo kat
