Beatles Photo of the Week: Eskimo Beatles!

LJ: Obviously some twerp doctored this photo, and that's why it looks like a weird painting. Were John Lennon's cheeks really that rosy? I doubt it. They look like Victorian-era porcelain dolls. But all Victoriana aside- isn't fake-rosy-cheeked Paul McCartney just the darling-est sweet darling you ever saw?!? His pointy little ferret-chin is as cute as a mini-marshmallow in a steaming mug of hot cocoa! I want to shack up with him in an igloo. George looks like a dead chicken. Ringo's facial expression is awkward, but I'm down with it. My favourite thing about this photo is that their Eskimo-coats are hooded (I think). Sometimes I like to imagine what the Beatles would wear if they existed as twentysomethings in 2009. Probably mostly the same stuff, only also- the Beatles would wear HOODIES. It is so epically tragic, how we never got to see the Beatles wear hoodies. The sixties were so stupid, in some ways. I mean, really- HOW ADORABLE WOULD 1964 PAUL McCARTNEY LOOK IN A HOODY? So frickin'-frackin' adorable, that it would be unfair not to refer to the hoody as a "bunny hug."
PS: "Nice hair", Neil Aspinall. Now I get why you are always wearing a hat in the Beatles Anth.
LIZ: Hey, is it weird that I totally just got sorta misty over the idea of Beatles in Bunny Hugs? I'm sitting on the floor and my apartment's cold, and the radio's doing a special "It's 29 years since John Lennon died" edition of "Breakfast With The Beatles," and I only got four hours of sleep last night (BECAUSE I HAVE INSOMNIA), and all in all it's shaping up to be a Sensitive Sunday, as a buddy o' mine would say. So, the thought of rosy-cheeked John Lennon in a hoodie made me a cry a little, and that's cool. Everything is cool, despite being completely unfair. And I don't think the Beatles look much like eskimos here; I think they look more like that part in The Wizard of Oz where Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion steal the Winkies costumes so they can sneak into the witch's castle, which was really crafty and bad-ass of them. I wish I could link to a vid of the "Winkie March" scene from the movie, but apparently none exists on the Internet. So instead here's the same bit but from something called "The Wizard of Oz on Ice," which looks really amazing and full of good acting. Remember the Ice Capades? Good grief, I miss the hell outta that now too.
