Snapshot: Listening, Watching, Reading, Wearing, Wanting
+ Kat
Listening: Charlotte Gainsbourg, IRM. Go on, haters, but this is my favorite pop record right now. It's pleasant to listen to but there's a lot of death stuff on it, which is like Goth easy listening in concept. Really it's like the best record that Beck never made, only he kind of did, since he wrote and produced a lot of it -- but obviously he needed a Gallic babe as his spirit animal to complete himself. Dear Charlotte Gainsbourg -- you go from being the only palatable part of Antichrist to this record in the space of a year, are you an effin' alien from another universe? 'CAUSE YOU ROCK COSMIC.
Watching: "Mad Men"; I finished every possible episode of "30 Rock" except for the first 8 episodes of the current season; and tomorrow I think I'm going to see The Young Victoria.
Reading: I re-read Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian. I was hoping it would take me through Valentine's Day because I can't think of anything better to read than a slow, absorbing book about Vlad the Impaler on that day. But alas, I have to come up with something else. I also finished re-reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog. That book always kills me in a good way, even though I'm not fond of the ending.
Wearing: Lots of tights and leggings to keep warm, a sweater and an Alexander McQueen for Target dress "in honor and remembrance." Alexander McQueen, R.I.P. I feel so sad about his passing.
Wanting: I WANT TO SLEEP AND SLEEP AND SLEEP LIKE A LITTLE BABY TILL SPRINGTIME AND THEN WAKE UP TO SUNSHINE. HIBERNATION NOW!
Charlotte Gainsbourg and Beck, "Heaven Can Wait"
+ Liz
Listening: this delightful "Breakfast with the Beatles" interview in which Ringo Starr discusses the "Ringo Starr Diet" (for breakast, muesli or oatmeal - "always with berries!"; juice and a protein bar for lunch; pesto pasta or "steamed veg" for dinner)
Watching: Ringo Starr get his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (or, I did Monday night, anyway)
Reading: oh, lots of different things all at once, including a book on how to get rich quick
Wearing: the maroon "Norland Sr. High Class of 1981" t-shirt I bought for $3 at the American Apparel outlet on the Venice Beach boardwalk, fave blue jeans, blue sequin Converse, black knit beret, fake leather jacket with "I <3 Ringo" pin!
Wanting: an individually sized cake from Cake Monkey, especially the 'Nuff Said (chocolate crumble with marshmallow, caramel, dark chocolate, pecans, and sea salt) or the Coconut Cake (brown butter cake with caramel, toasted coconut, and shredded coconut frosting) or even just the Vanilla Gorilla (vanilla cake with Tahitian vanilla frosting and sugar sparkles)
(Left: some sort of Cake Monkey cake that's probably Christmasy but could maybe also be Valentinesy. Right: Ringo for President!)

+ Laura Jane
Listening: Look. Listen. You don't understand. I was the girl from "Girl" from the Beatles, and it was killing me. I listened to "Girl", and I cried on the street. I take these things too seriously. The girl from "Girl" grows up to be "Sexy Sadie." I listened to "Sexy Sadie." I saw what was coming, and I didn't like it one bit. I pressed "next" on my iPod, which is set, permanently, to the "shuffle" function. And then, I saw- I've changed. I'm not "Girl" anymore. I'm "Wild Honey Pie."
Watching: I'm "Wild Honey Pie," forever and ever. It's me, standing in the middle of a field, and the Beatles are dancing in a circle around me. They are playing a uke and a gee-tar and a fiddle and a tambou, and they are singing me this song. The twitchy-eyed guitars. All of them, are for me.
Reading: I Wikipedia-ed "Wild Honey Pie," and I found out that "Wild Honey Pie" is actually just Paul McCartney, in a room. I had no idea! That makes it better, somehow.
Wearing: When I am in the field, I am wearing a crown of blackthorns and blackthorn berries. I'm wearing an eyepatch, and it looks great on me. In the field are growing daffodils, dandelions and sunflowers. The Beatles are wearing burgundy, mustard, dull orange, and teal corduroy trousers.
Wanting: Cool things to happen
Are y'all ready to get Laura JANED???

Say something so insightful and witty, it will blow us away. (No pressure.)
Got something to say? We'd love to hear it! Name, email and "type in the weirdo drunken text" thingie are all required to comment; don't worry, we won't email you or anything, we just want to make sure you're not an evil spambot. Keeping in mind the good-times mentality we like to keep going here, we've worked hard to keep NOGOODFORME.COM as fun as possible. We welcome all kinds of comments, but insults/abuse/general bitchery are not tolerated. In other words, we put the smackdown on evil troll posts. If you want to be a hater, please go elsewhere. Now, as Salt 'N Pepa say, "Only the sexy people..."

Listening: "Jane Doe" by Converge, "Singles Collection Vol. 1" by the Dropkick Murphys, "Black Love" by the Afghan Whigs
Watching: "White Lightning" with Burt Fucking Reynolds and Metalocalyse Season 2
Reading: Just finished "A Savage Peace" and I'm halfway through "An Almanac for Moderns" by Don Peattie. Also just read "Welcome Back Frank" by Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon.
Wearing: Two-day old clothes: Work pants, River City Rollergirls tee and a hoodie sweatshirt. I need a shower.
Wanting: To get past all the weirdness and figure out why all this weird hedonistic stuff is veering my way right now.
Bonus:
Eating: I went to The Lady & Sons (Paula Deen's restaurant) in Savannah for lunch on Wednesday! Fried green tomatoes, buffet that included ribs and all sorts of kickass southern side-dishes, plus banana pudding for desert. I think all told there were three sticks of butter in that meal.

Rock on! Hoping my nine year-old grows up to be like anyone of you (or better, as a dynamic trio), a decade from now what with the music and the reading and the style.

NO LIE, laura jane: on friday night i was driving & listening to the white album, & thought to myself that maybe i was "wild honey pie" (as in "which beatles song are you?"). then i went home and wikipedia-ed "wild honey pie" and found out it is just paul (though i was kind of disappointed by that).
but i'm kind of silently freaking out about this right now (i didn't read this until today).
