Snapshot: Listening, Reading, Watching, Wearing, Wanting
+ Kat
Listening: I made this "Sunny Summer" mix for driving that has stuff like Debbie Deb and Ladyhawke and Gwen Stefani and Expose on it, and then I made one called "Dark Summer" on it that has stuff like Moderat and and HEALTH and Scientist and Belief-era Nitzer Ebb on it. The guiding principle behind "Sunny Summer" was "boppiness," and everything on "Dark Summer" was "abrasive but danceable." I wish I could put it on a 90-minute cassette tape and send them to everyone. I miss TAPES.
Watching: All the footage I'm shooting with my new HD camcorder, one of those little ones. Mine is shaped like a Blackberry, which is exciting because I loooooovvvveee my Blackberry. I'm in a serious "ooooh, shoot everything all the time!" phase, mostly to play around and figure out my new tool's strengths and weaknesses. Also I finally finished season 1 of "Mad Men."
Reading: Twyla Tharp's autobiography, Push Comes to Shove, and the Miranda July book of short stories, some of which I like a lot.
Wearing: A Mika Machido top that I got at Ekovaruhuset, Uniqlo jeans that have sadly stretched out too much.
Wanting: $$$$$!!!! Universe, keep bringing work my way, I love it! Also: I redesigned my personal website and I AM SO HAPPY WITH IT. I'm still refining the details and redoing the content, but it feels exactly how I want it to feel: clear and feminine and a little elegant. I just wanted to share! It's great to feel happy about things you do and to share that!
I'm in love with the macro mode:
+ Liz
Listening: "Cactus" by David Bowie and "Badge" by Cream
Watching: Basically all I watch is The Hills. Oh and TakeYourFaceOff.tumblr.com.
Reading: the "How To Be A Man" issue of Esquire. I feel manlier already! And that bonkers New York profile of Paz De La Huerta. Imagine if your ex wrote a profile on you for New York? That would be weird. But I liked this part: "'When Paz says something, you can taste it in your mouth,' says director Nemo Librizzi, a longtime friend. 'When I'm hungry, I just ask her to say strawberry shortcake.'"
Wearing: Soon I'll be wearing my pretty little orange slip dress from Electric Bluebird, plus cowboy boots.
Wanting: Strawberry shortcake. And from now on I want to start telling every superlatively hot dude I come in contact with that he's "lookin' better than a body has a right to." I'll probably forget, though.
(L: strawberry shortcake. R: David Bowie)

+ Laura Jane
Listening: Van Dyke Parks; The Velvet Underground, White Light/White Heat; "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"; "Sexy Sadie"
Watching: The Mighty Boosh- PS just so everybody knows I'm totally going to meet my boyfriend Noel Fielding when he comes to Toronto on July 8th, so that's EXCITING!!!!!!!
Reading: The British Vogue with Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover, which is so enlightening, you know, and I'm just so impressed, by how much Gwyneth LOVES "food, wine, and sex." Food, wine, and sex??!?!?!?!????!!!? I've never met a human being with those interests before. Anybody who ever calls this woman "trad" is full of beans.
Wearing: Black jeans with zippers at the ankles; this blacky smocky sort of shirt thing with lamb's ear sleeves; red-and-white polka-dot babydoll dress; black tank dress; seashell necklace; Paul McCartney t-shirt; shrunken grey cardigan meant for a six year old
Wanting: I just woke up from a dream wherein ODB was my best friend, and also flamboyantly gay, and dying, and a drug dealer, and we went to Las Vegas. There was an "alcoholic Starbucks" (to quote Gay ODB) in the casino we stayed at, and- I kid you not- I drank a Venti half-sweet Passion Tea Lemonade Margarita. Such are the maniacal imaginings of my brain unhinged. The dream ended with this very scary escapade in which I had to carry Gay Dying ODB down fifteen billion flights of stairs to save his life, and he was covered in a pink fuzzy blanket, and at one point I had to climb out a window and was very high up from the ground, to check to see if the police were watching. Plus, there were all these gates I had to climb over, but I succeeded. I suppose what I mean to say is that I aspire to such levels of decadence in all arenas of my life. I will no longer allow my awakeness to hold me back.
OH MY CUTE WEIRD WACKY BOYFRIEND! LOOK HOW CUTE AND WEIRD AND WACKY HE IS!

Got something to say? We'd love to hear it! I really like this week's snapshot from you guys. Also, I've liked the last few entries after what seemed like a lag last week. And that strawberry shortcake pic is *killing* me, as it's just before lunch here on the East Coast.
Listening: During my race last week I listened to Mastodon’s “Crack the Skye,” selected tracks from the Go Team’s “Thunder, Lightning, Strike” and selected tracks from In Flames’ “Clayman.” Also I’ve been listening to “Blue Belle Knoll” by the Cocteau Twins and “The Blue Record” by Baroness.
Watching: “Observe and Report,” bits from “The Comedians of Comedy” and hopefully the end of the 2nd “Sandbaggers” series by the week’s end.
Reading: STILL “The Dain Curse” by Dashiell Hammett, which is great but seems to burn through set piece after set piece. Also, “The Agents of Atlas” which is awesome in that it takes a woefully out-of-date set of ‘50s characters and turns them into a thoroughly modern superhero team, and not in a way that’s lame and played out but in a more thought-provoking, “whoa that’s cool I haven’t seen that before” manner.
Eating: Still munching homegrown lettuce, and sushi for lunch today (but now I think I'd rather just eat strawberry shortcake all the time).
Wanting: Grace in trying times.

Kat, your site is looking good! I'm going to check out your movies when my Internet connection decides to work better, it's in a mood right now.
People magazine just doesn't get David Bowie! On the other hand that looks like it's from the era when he was so wacked-out on cocaine that he ate only celery.

Dear Laura Jane:
I saw your doppleganger in downtown Royal Oak, MI on Tuesday.
Also, while alcoholic Starbucks may be a figment of your overactive subconscious, we had alcoholic milkshakes delivered to work last week. Being a writer is pretty boss sometimes.
Just wanted to let you know,
Julia

Listening: Ash Reiter, The Parson Red Heads, live Chicago bootlegs from the '80s
Watching: I not only got to coordinate technical logistics for a big day job event this morning, I was able to watch the entire series of presentations about how awesome my employer is at feeding my city's economic engine. Sounds boring, but it was actually so fist-pumpingly inspiring that it kept me awake even though I was running on 3 hours of sleep.
Reading: I just started "Rock and Roll Will Save Your Life" by Steve Almond. I might have to write an actual blog post about it when I'm done. I'm only through with the intro and already my head wants to puke new words everywhere.
Wearing: It was another formal-wear day, or at least as formal as it gets for me - the $8 tweed blazer that everyone seems to love.
Wanting: Sleep. Actually that's a lie. I want for sleep not to be necessary.
