Hot Babes: Nico in the "I'm Not Sayin'" Video
What do you think it would feel like to be as beautiful as Nico? I always wonder about that. I really admire Nico (also Marianne Faithfull), for being so heartbreakingly gorgeous as she was, but also managing to end up a cool and interesting person. I used to attribute Nico's coolness and intrigue to her involvement with the Velvet Underground and Cool King John Cale, but "I'm Not Sayin'" is pre-Caley, from 1965. It is undeniably cool and my favourite Nico song. This is the promotional video that came along with the single, which was released on Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate Records, the coolest record label ever to have existed, in my opinion. (Sorry, Apple!)
PS: Nico was a Libra.

I often wonder about beautiful interesting people too. Especially the beautiful part. I mean, I know I'm cute but I will never be universally beautiful, and it's weird to think of people that are...
Anyway, this is MY fav Nico song too & it's really good on a bittersweet mixtape for someone that you can't help cheating on. HAH.

The best thing about her (other than her face and her voice and, well, everything about her) was that she was a total ice queen. She was so untouchable. And she could put Lou Reed in his place like no one else could.

Have you seen the documentary "NICO/ICON"? It's pretty fucking amazing, but I think only available on VHS (!!!). Some (creepy, now old) guy who was her lover said "she had no language, couldn't speak English, couldn't speak German." And it was also really fascinating that apparently later in her career, she was so glad to be not-beautiful, even ugly. I thought that was interesting alongside the girl punk idea of uglification. BUT YEAH, the "I'm Not Saying" song/video was the best part of the documentary, I want to get a copy of that song, it's totally my style. The documentary also has a lot of film clips of Nico in like German champagne tv commercials in the early 60s which are mindblowing. If you have seen it you already know all this, but maybe another reader hasn't and can find a VHS copy at a local video store!!!
