Snapshot: Listening, Watching, Reading, Wearing, Wanting
+ Kat
Listening: Frida Hyvonen, new songs from the new Walkmen, that new Kanye West song with Beyonce.
Watching: I bet someone is going to make me see that Scott Pilgrim movie this weekend. Also, there is a television in my sublet and I can't believe that I watch "Lopez Tonight" sometimes. Those karaoke-singing wrestlers!
Reading: You know, I actually have been working like a dog this week and haven't read much of anything! WHAT?!!!!
Wearing: There is a rare break in the relentless heat and humidity that is NYC Summer 2010, so I'm wearing skinny jeans from Uniqlo and an old Depeche Mode t-shirt. CAN'T WAIT FOR FALL CLOTHES!!!! I went to my storage space to retrieve an old laptop and I saw a bag full of boots and jackets and other beautiful autumnal clothing and I got SO EXCITED.
Wanting: <3 TO EVERYONE.
I like him so much, but why can I not see Michael Cera as a viable sexual entity?
+ Liz
Listening: "Can We Still Be Friends?" by Todd Rundgren, "Spin It On" by Wings, Van Halen, Sonic Youth
Watching: on a redeye Tuesday night I paid five dollars for four episodes from season six of Sex and the City: the one where Big has heart surgery, the one where Carrie meets The Russian, the one where Blair Underwood is all weird to Miranda in the hallway, and the one where Samantha finds out she has breast cancer. Also: clips of James Franco as "Franco" on General Hospital, Mad Men.
Reading: that New York profile of James Franco, the Bill Clinton issue of Esquire; rereading A Complicated Kindness
Wearing: this really cool shirt about Glendale. It's a wifebeater with neon-green typeface and a creepy/stupid eagle.
Wanting: that disease James Franco has where he does 8 zillion things at the same time and is good at lots of them
James Franco on General Hospital. I like when he says: "I'm going to pretend that that self-pitying drivel didn't just emerge from your lovely mouth," cuz it totally sounds like something I'd say.
+ Laura Jane
Listening: The first and last three songs on Here Come The Warm Jets by Brian Eno
Watching: Mad Men: I was really enjoying Lane and Don's friendship date, until Lane did that awful thing with the steak. That was gross. But I'm glad they're friends now.
Reading: A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce
Wearing: Jean shorts, red plaid flannel, Bernhard Willhelm x Camper sandals
Wanting: To win 50 million dollars in the lottery today! I really, really want that!
JAMES JOYCE IRL:
PS ALSO HERE IS THE TRAILER FOR THE NEW SERGE GAINSBOURG BIOPIC:
I took that from Cat Party. Also, don't you think it's weird that Serge Gainsbourg changed his name from Lucien to Serge? Lucien's way hotter.

I always try to type my "password" into the URL field. I hope I never do because then everyone in the world will know ALL of my passwords. Turns out my boyfriend started using that password too, because it's like bogus but somehow easy to memorize.
Listening: To Bring You My Love, because I am a creep and think that it is PERFECT late summer music; a modification of the mix I made for Laura Jane a couple months ago.
Watching: OMG we watched like half of the original 1974 FOXY BROWN with Pam Grier the other day; it is FUCKING AMAZING; she defines badass.
Reading: A Complicated Kindness because Liz thinks so highly of it; Vegan Yum Yum which has great recipes (though I modify them to be less hoity-toity; who can afford pine nuts!?) but a shitty attitude; and LOSER: THE REAL SEATTLE MUSIC STORY. I got it for my boyfriend for his birthday Sep 1 but when it came in the mail I couldn't resist and had to give it to him right away. He LOVED it and said he never would've remembered it if I hadn't bought it. We both used to check it out from the library like in middle school, it's out of print. It's so great, it's all zine style with funny photocopied clip art, band line ups that BLOW YOUR MIND and MAKE YOU CRY for having been only like 8 years old when it happened. Also has a photo of Lynda Barry being a 20-something!
Wearing: Heather gray v-neck t-shirt with raw edge hems; how come gray v-neck t-shirts are so sexy? Levis skinny jeans; brown Naturalizer oxford sensible shoes.
Wanting: nothin, I am satisFIED. No actually I want lots of pretty stuff from etsy for my upcoming semi-secret micro-wedding, but, I probably won't bother.

Listening: Thanks to Scott Pilgrim, I've rediscovered my love for Plumtree/90s Halifax bands.
Watching: Mad Men, season three of Roswell (for a friend's blog), and tonight it's Sixteen Candles on the big screen. And I'll probably drag my husband to see Scott Pilgrim this weekend.
Reading: various September issues and Through the Children's Gate by Adam Gopnik, which is not nearly as awesome as Paris to the Moon (but it was on my bookshelf)
Wearing: yellow keds and one of my 17 boatneck striped shirts.
Wanting: saddle shoes, roller derby skates/gear, and to win $50 million (which would solve the roller derby and saddle shoe wants)
By L-A on August 13, 2010 11:48 AM
Listening: Helen of Troy by John Cale, again and again and again... I think he does 'Pablo Picasso' even better than the Modern Lovers' original, which is funny, because that's one of my favourite songs.
Watching: I got stoned and watched The Wall with my friends last night and I feel violated for some reason.
Reading: Please Kill Me by Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain.
Wearing: all black, as usual, with these amazing five-inch wedge boots that were originally £85 and I got them for £30. I love bargains.
Wanting: another cup of tea.

Laura Jane, you are awesome because I've been trying to find this joyce clip online for so long, and alas, am a terrible researcher, but now, here it is. So thank you.
Also, I'm writing my thesis on fashion in Ulysses, and a few days ago I learned that when you google "james joyce fashion" the first result is nogoodforme. This made me happy, I hope it makes you happy as well.

It DOES make me happy! Dude totally send me your thesis when you've written it. That sounds incredible.
