Snapshot: Listening, Reading, Watching, Wearing, Wanting
+ Kat
Listening: PJ Harvey, Is This Desire?, Duran Duran, Rio; the Knife; King Tubby
Watching: OK, I know I'm making my way through Mad Men at a slow pace, but I finally started season three. Also, I just saw Going the Distance, which would be just an OK movie if not for the sheer likability of the actors. I liked it fine, it's a likable movie.
Reading: Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman, Haruki Murakami.
Wearing: A grey cashmere "sweatshirt," skinny jeans, ballet flats, messy hair, army parka.
Wanting: I don't want to deal with anything, I have fucking allergies, my head is GOING TO EXPLODE.
Maybe "Rio" by Duran Duran will make me feel better.
+ Liz
Listening: "Big Pimpin'" by Jay-Z and an acoustic-guitar-based rendition of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"
Watching: a really cute movie called Timer! If you love awkward little romantic comedies starring dudes from Gossip Girl* and set in my neighborhood, you should totally watch it on Netflix right now. Also I saw Foxes (Cherie Currie + Jodie Foster + Damone from Fast Times at Ridgemont High + Scott Baio as this total babe-in-training skater boy) and it's BONKERS.
Reading: A Boy of Good Breeding by Miriam Toews, which sadly isn't filling the Nomi Nickel void
Wearing: jeans + grey v-neck tee + zebra-striped ballet flats + knit beanie cuz it's c-c-c-cold...
Wanting: a Guys' Night Out with a Neil Young dance party
*Jack Bass and Aaron Rose, who's actually kind of adorable, when he's not being Aaron Rose:
+ Laura Jane
Listening: John "JWoww" Cale
Watching: Jersey Shore (bitch)
Reading: Jimmy "JWoww" Joyce
Wearing: My topknot, you know, it's such a good hairstyle, it's a situation. My hoody, you know, this is the THLV I call it, the chill-out THLV. For when I just chillin', you know? The topknot, the hoody, the leggings, the Vans. It's a situation; even when I'm chillin', you gotta look fresh. Fresh to death. In my jammies, even. It's a situation.
Wanting: 1) To get high with JWoww; 2) To get drunk with JWoww; 3) For people to call me "LJWoww" more often; 4) Dude advice from JWoww; 5) Other JWoww stuff
EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD'S FAVOURITE JWOWW MOMENT:
Tags: Damone, Foxes, Jay-Z, JWoww, Nomi Nickel, the other Aaron Rose

Listening: Currently it's Bowie's "Putting Out Fire with Gasoline".
Watching: I stayed up to till 5 in the morning the other night but I'm finally caught up on Mad Men. I am just now catching up on Project Runway. I watch too much TV for someone who doesn't own a TV.
Reading: Just finished White Teeth by Zadie Smith, am currently reading the Vice Anti-music Issue, and this week's Time Out New York.
Wearing: Gray thermal top from, black skinny jeans, a ponytail, and maybe ballet flats, and maybe either a trenchcoat or wool motorcycle jacket depending on how cold it is outside.
Wanting: My nose to stop being congested. These aren't even allergies! This is a summer cold residual that still hasn't gone away!

Also like to mention that I really enjoyed timer, and had a coworker call me JWoww at work once. I've never seen Jersey Shore but that's a good thing right?

Listening: Quix*o*tic; Mad Mike Monsters Vol 1 (I don't think there are any other volumes, breaks my heart) (I highly recommend it, it's the best early 60s comp, it is so fun & funny & not corny (OK that depends on your definition of corny) & contains NO HITS (unless you count "Psycho", that's the biggest hit, but it is my understanding that it was NOT a "hit" at the time).
Watching: I watch Weeds over the kitchen sink because my roomies are always watching it while I do dishes. I do not like it in general but to some degree I feel myself getting sucked in.
Reading: I have not had time to read anything. My goal next week is to read 20 minutes a day like the elementary school reader boards suggest.
Wearing: jeans & shirts & socks & red t-strap mary janes.
Wanting: time to read; to organize my files; to begin the process of creating a "working wardrobe". I am 27 & it's time.

Hey LJ, I thought you should know that there's now a comic (Veronica #202 apparently) that involves Jughead doing (or, uh, *not* doing, heheh -- more on that in a minute) something interesting.
I ripped this from the Savage Critic website:
"This actually gets very exciting and uncomfortable in a pretty extreme way, because it really does seem like something sexxxy is going to happen when Kevin (he’s the cover’s “hot new guy”, Archie’s first out-gay character) takes Jughead back to his house to meet the folks, as the comic up until then has consistently made clear how perfect the two gentleman are for one another. The uncomfortable part is that there’s no way for the reader to forget that they’re reading an Archie comic, which means that you know, for sure, that Jughead and Kevin will not make out, no matter how much time is spent strongly implying that’s the exact thing that is going to happen. So there you sit, pensively waiting on the moment when something tone-deaf (and gay-panicky) happens to tear the two apart. I was surprised then, as nothing actually did, the story just builds and builds and builds to a moment that should happen, doesn’t, and then the comic ends. Arguably, that’s probably the best way to handle them not kissing–if they aren’t going to hook up, why not never give a reason, thus insuring that the reader immediately knows what the real reason is, which is that a corporate publisher is scared of alienating people who shit their pants whenever same-sex fictional characters kiss."
Anyway, it's not by JWoww Joyce, and probably doesn't look as good as if it had been drawn by DWoww DeCarlo, but still maybe of interest.
Also:
Listening: “What Would the Community Think” by Cat Power, “Nifelvind” by Finntroll, “Once Sent from the Golden Hall” by Amon Amarth.
Watching: “Girlhood,” a doc about two girls in the Baltimore juvenile justice system that left me feeling for my friends with jobs in social work and alternative schools. Also “M*A*S*H” – I’d grown up with the TV series of course but had never seen the movie. It was awesome and deserves another viewing in the near future.
Reading: Posts by my fellow political writers Mike Sluss and DwayneYancey on the Blue Ridge Caucus – the Roanoke Times’ new political blog. Also “The Power of the Press: The Birth of American Political Reporting” by Thomas Leonard and “The Immortal Iron Fist Vol. 3: The Book of Iron Fist” by Ed Brubaker et al.
Eating: Top-blade and strip steak, salad with fake crab and homegrown roma tomatoes, a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts.
Wanting: A clean house, trained dog and financial security. Don’t we all?
