Thursday , February 28, 2008 Daisy Lowe, Blogger I was so inner-conflicted about British model Daisy Lowe. I mean, yeah, she's the progeny of rock stars and stuff and we're not really into nepotism, no matter how convenient it makes for editorial. But she seems like a fun, nice girl, and she's got kind of a more "real" thing happening with her curvier-than-the-average-runway-stick figure, which we're into. And she looks just a teensy bit like Anna Karina, which is always a cool thing in my book. And now she's blogging over at Elle UK! It's the usual blogger type of stuff (what's she reading, what she ate at lunch -- yes, she eats! ) But like Daisy, her blog is completely approachable and fun-loving.

Wednesday , August 9, 2006 Random Picture Entry: Milena Muzquiz of Los Super Elegantes Los Super Elegantes first came on my radar through the cloistered, cozy confines of the art world, having played in such venues as L.A.'s Hammer Museum and New York's Whitney Museum. The feisty, theatrical duo of artists Milena Muzquiz and Martiniano Lopez-Crozet make a vibrant, deliberately amateurish blend of surrealist punk, mariachi, pop and psychedelic disco, and it doesn't hurt that both are ridiculously hot in a very "her name is Rio and she dances on the sand" sort of way. Milena Muzquiz particularly seems to have emerged as the crush du jour of a certain subset of Angeleno art-damaged boy and girl. And who can blame them? Vibrant, fun, political in a smart, sly way, she's always dressed in a saucy dress and killer heels whether she's commanding the stage or marching in an immigrant rights demonstration. Every human being is super elegante in their world, and Los Super Elegantes wants everyone to live and dance in it.

Wednesday , August 31, 2005 Random Picture Entry: Leila Moss of the Duke Spirit Because we have no time this week, because the Duke Spirit's album Cuts Across the Land has a certain nonchalant yet confident alt-rock swagger and because singer Leila Moss has a soulful voice and looks a bit like Nico...
